5 Random Records from my Crates

1.  Bronski Beat – C’mon! C’mon!

Sometimes I pull these 12″ singles because I’m hoping that dub mix or instrumental will give me something to work with.  I honestly can’t remember if the B Side does anything for me but I love this era of album art.

2.  Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force-Renegades Of Funk

1984 in full flavor with futuristic sounds.  Renegade Funk with the Renegades Chant on the Bside (Hell yea) Be sure to listen to the breakdown at 3:08 on the video it’s simply delish.

3. Bassix – Pump Up The Mo Town

A frightening mega mix called PUMP UP THE MO TOWN a medley of Uptight, Going to a Go Go, Sugar Pie Honey Bunch, Same Old Song, Tears of a Clown & Grapevine (I heard It Through).   No, not the original songs but they’re redone.  Wow…just…wow.

4.  Splack Pack – Scrub Da Ground

This is an essential, but just a drop in the water, of my Miami Bass collection.  Sure, I’m bragging.  With music like this, who wouldn’t brag?  Here’s the video but for some reason the sound is complete & utter shite.  More visuals, less talk.  It’s my basic brain chemistry…so watch.

5.  J.J. Fad  - Be Good 2 Me

Aw JJ Fad getting all grown stepping into the 90’s away from thos 80’s beats and putting out this single exec produced by Eric EAZY E Wright and produced by Yella & the Arabian Prince.  This single also has a song called Back to Compton on it.  I don’t know if these ladies are from there or not…I mean honestly, I have no idea.

5 Random Records from my Crates

I decided to pull 5 random records blindly from my collection & share them with you!

1.  Latin & Lethal-Cuties (We Got’em)-Cut It Up Records

A great Bass label (look for it, remember it, you visual beast) and not as popular for sure.  Don’t have a link for you to listen (sorry).  If you don’t know this about me already I am a HUGE bass fan let alone a big Miami Bass collector.  FYIEYYYY.

2. Herbie Hancock- Ready or Not/You Bet Your Love 12″

Herbie Hancock – You Bet Your Love

Herbie Hancock-Ready or Not

3.  Miquel Brown-So Many Men-So Little Time

Not fully committed to disco or Hi NRG on the cusp in between both eras.  When I first bought this I thought (and prayed) for a gay anthem sung by a man…and it was a gay anthem of the time, however, Miquel is a lady.  I wasn’t disappointed tho.

4.  Rofo-Flashlight

Deeper into legitimate and clearer sound of Hi NRG comes Rofo.  Total raspy voice of those 80s singers in all the John Hughe’s films…cept he’s italian.  So yea, this falls into italo disco too.  Cool.

5.  Stan Getz-Big Band Bossa Nova

A treasured gift from a friend who first showed me around a radio station control room 13+ years ago.  Had it on CD for awhile & he dug this up.  Obviously this isn’t a dance single just a full collection of open your windows in the Summer & let the cool breeze roll in.  There has to be a little sweat tho…maybe a mojito.  Heck, I’ll take one if you don’t.

Erase the Time Mix on the The New Dance Show

Erik Travis Mix

I was going thru my records this morning to get some sense of organization and satisfaction from some of these crates. Instead of just organized into “What I’m djing now” and “What I’m not djing” I’m trying to get a little more SPECIFIC. Pulled out quite a few Databass and looked up some Erik Travis…that’s how I found the above.
