Chinatown tonight is gonna be packed on the Gin Ling Way with plenty of quality events & people I respect.  I like the idea of us all pushing forth the awesome & cause at the same time, crossing over and being LEGIT.   First off  our event is in the NO BS vein which is my heart and soul of SOLID music, TALENTED people and honestly…NO BULLSHIT.  WHAT A  CONCEPT.  Seems crazy?  It’s not.  Simple and to the point.  I don’t believe in over hyped nonsense I stick to quality and deliver.  Sound good?  Well then fucking show up.  No RSVP.  No Cover.  What do you want me to wrap it in a pretty package and make it nice for you?  Sorry.  This dancefloor is for sweat not your padded problems.

Welcome Hunters will be hosting the opening reception of Project White T-Shirt  at 8:00 pm TONIGHT til 11.  Project White T-Shirt is curated by Triple-Major to support Designers Against AIDS. 31 designers were asked to transform and redefine the classic white t-shirt.  Triple-Major will turn Welcome Hunters into a simulated laundromat with washing machines, clothes lines and laundry supplies.

This post is dedicated to ladies I love in my life.  I was going thru flickr photostream and I got inspired…

This is my girlfriend Andy’s room.  When I first met her it was when I walked into the office of Radio1190 around 10+ years ago.  I was so curious about her life, she seemed so interesting to me.  There were times when I imagined her getting ready to go out after a conversation I had with one of her roommates about what it was like to live with her.

She seemed to have some magical life that was so out of reach from my perspective.  It took some time for us to get to know each other & also erase memories that other people had put on top peeling away for us to feel each other instead of circumstances/clubs/ situations.  Just us.

We both ended up working in parallel words (and together @ Fanatic Promotion) and our love of music became more of our life and now it’s safe to say we work in the “industry” of music even tho it’s probably the last thing you will ever heard coming out of our mouths.  With that in mind knowing that she’s out there, more than surviving but living and existing in these spaces while I do my thing and our paths do cross makes me so happy.  Miss A.T.L.  I salute you.

Last night I went to the Kimmel show for the second time. The last show I saw was on their cockfueled adventures of Eagles of Death Metal.   This time MSTRKRFT was slated to perform along with rumbles & rumors of other people.  It turned out Noreaga & Isis accompanied them onstage…the latter whom I hadn’t seen since she was slated to perform at my SXSW party in 2007 in Thunderheist.  I kept my cameraphone closed once we hit the green room cause the signs politely told you not to but I promise you the imaginary photos of the banana samosas & sweet potato fries looked ravishing.  I got a few afterwards…don’t you love my photo skillz?

The green room is alway an adventure of exhaustion mixed with ego & pure indifference.  Okay I don’t really mean that the Green Room is a land of aplenty!  But honestly this Green Room was fun I think Kimmel is just smart as fuck or someone working for him his.  The catering was good, the place was laid out right and they had pinball machines…okay they weren’t plugged in but WHATEVER!  They were there.  Overall it was relaxing…the bartender was very nice & wanted me to drink.  Wait…maybe that’s his job.

Either way once we got carted out to see the band we heard a quick soundcheck and it was refreshing to hear sounds over friggen million dollar soundsystem  (I’m totally ballparking that number).  I’ve gotten so used to shitty when I actually heard beats properly displayed I got PSYCHED.  The video is below and you can see me slap the air around 2:47…and in the start (on the left) giving a double chaka brah*.  XOXOXO!

*Yes it’s “Chaka Brah” instead of “Shaka Brah” because I believe in the Church of Chaka (I feel for you)

Last night I left my house early and started the night out right.  Tried to see Icy Lytes but wires crossed and that just did not happen.   Headed east to the 100 pieces for $100 bucks @ Sugar Salon where my honey and a few other trusted friends suggest I go get my hair cut.

I’m assuming that the show will be up for a month or more.  Green Truck was also there my favorite healthy savior of the Mothertrucker Veggie Burger during random events including a Brian Lichtenberg show back during fashion week here in LA and also caught them during my friend’s Dressy Bessy show @ the Troubadour.

After that I needed someone to do Echoplex with for Eon Mckai’s party in conjunction with Miss Kitty’s 7 year anniversary.  I ended up going with my friend Martin where later Eon told me he was twittersaulted so we actually never got to give hi fives.  That’s okay…we actually hi fived earlier that week.  I didn’t put the array of faces together til afterwords but I’m pretty sure I saw (stared) at a twitter friend (crush)  as well as  my one of my favorites photographers/performers Austin Young.  All photos by Rae Threat.

Although they did once send me to the Cha Cha for $3 Bloody Marys on a Sunday and they were closed I’ve forgiven them because I realized it was Super Bowl Sunday and nothing is normal in America on that day.  With that aside they essentially tell you where you can go drink for free which is a plus and a half…occasionally they’ll throw in places that have food too it seems.  NICE

New Beverly is the twitter of just that…the New Beverly movie theater here in LA.  Since befriendly their lovely (and quite interactive/reactive) twitter I don’t have to resort to checking back to my calender for evening plans…instead I am actually reminded of them.

Home of “The Moment” the New York Times fashion mag I patiently waited to come out twice a year in my teens living in NJ.  Now I can get up to the moment commentary live post shows & also unique blogs about fashion with an original and personal voice.  They have also been on Twitter for awhile and have a nice momentum & an experienced commentator or perhaps knowledgable intern running their twitter!

Last time I saw DJ Frane we were at the Beat Swap Meet kickin back at the bar while I lied about how much I spent buying records (I said I spent less).  This Wednesday he’ll be putting some some serious vinyl (yea I said it…VINYL) onto the magical turntables (he makes them magical) and taking us into a serious 5 hour eclectic journey where we’ve never been before (I guarantee this).  It’ll be a land of fewer parenthesis (I swear) and more exclamation points.  Here’s a couple

Last Friday while LA got it’s rain on and I laid in bed with a case of just being a woman my friend’s new store launched a Cheap Monday/WKND pop up shop in the Choose Chinatown space (in where else, Chinatown). When I first moved to LA the cats at Welcome Hunters were the first people approached and said the words “Do you want a DJ?” I hesitated using this question in this town for many reasons a few being I didn’t come to LA to be just a DJ and get into some magical invisible and constantly rotating scene. I wanted a life with good food, movies & cuddling. Lately which I’ve been doing lots of (and yes, another added reason why Friday night probably didn’t see me).  Either way I saw their flyer for the night they were doing at the Mountain Bar a year or so ago and we ended up connecting and they liked what I played and for about 6 months straight I was djing their parties along with the cats from Lion’s Den.

Last weekend the friends n shopowners Lion’s Den & Welcome Hunters came together to host & create the Cheap Monday & WKND concept store for the next two seasons…
